As Afghani President Ashraf Ghani fled the country, the Taliban militants have taken control of the Afghani Presidential Palace and have begun, what they call "a peaceful transition."

A Taliban spokesperson spoke to the media and it will redeclare the country as the "Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan" and also declared the end of the warfare that the Taliban had launched against the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan.

Taliban Operated Afghanistan under the same name from 1996 before the American invasion in 2001.

The country was known as the People's Republic of Afghanistan when it used to be secular when the communists were in power and Taliban predecessor mujahidin were created.

During the regime of the Taliban between 1996 and 2001, people had a very limited amount of freedom. Despite a visible backing, the US had not recognized the Taliban as the government.

The US, however, changed its policy towards the Taliban after the September-11 bombing of the twin towers, which resulted in the American invasion.
