US Embassy in Kabul Directs Staff to destroy sensitive files as they prepare to flee

The US Embassy in Kabul has ordered its staff to destroy all the files containing sensitive information and that can be used against the US. It explicitly said to destroy all the materials that could be used to spread ‘propaganda’ against the States.

The order comes as the militant group, Taliban threatened to topple the government in Kabul. According to a report, it will take the Islamist group just 30 days to surround the capital and 90 days to take over it.

The United States has announced to deploy more than 3,000 troops temporarily in the capital to evacuate US embassy personnel from Kabul.

The US State Department spokesperson clarified that the US will still leave “a core diplomatic presence” in the country.

The US Embassy urged its staff, to destroy computers, sensitive documents, as well as the items, and articles that can be used to spread propaganda against the US.

The State Department has said that the notice is part of the “standard operating procedures during Embassy Drawdowns.
