Women Rights activists gathered at Kadikoy Square in the Turkish capital of Istanbul following the killing of a University Student.

The 21-year-old Azra Gulendam Haytaoglu had been disappearing since the last week and was later found buried in the forest.

The murder is the latest in the series of intensifying violence against women.

Forty-eight-year-old real estate agent Mustafa Murat Ayhan has recently confessed to the murder.

Women rights activists have been protesting against Turkey's withdrawal from the Istanbul Convention, an international treaty to avert and prosecute violence against women and domestic abuse, which was signed in 2011.

"I don't believe that women really live equally in this country. Because we still live under the pressure of men. There is such pressure," One of the protesters said during the protests.

"Why can't I walk freely on the streets of my country? Why am I scared when it gets dark? Why am I scared on a deserted street? I don't think it should be like this," Another Protestor said.
