The premiere date for Amazon's highly anticipated Lord of the Rings series has been confirmed, along with a first peek photograph.

On September 2, 2022, the epic fantasy series will premiere on the streaming service, with fresh episodes arriving regularly after that.

The first season of the show's filming wrapped today (2 August) in New Zealand.

The architecture in the background has been speculated to be created by the elves, with Gizmodo.com claiming that it has a “distinct Rivendell vibe.”

Little is known about the new series, except that it will chronicle the narrative of "heroic legends from Middle-fabled earth's Second Age." It is set “thousands of years before the events of JRR Tolkien's The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings,” yet readers will recognize some of the characters.

The first season of the show is expected to cost $465 million (£335 million). Cynthia Addai-Robinson, Joseph Mawle, Sir Lenny Henry, Peter Mullan, and Morfydd Clark (Saint Maud) will star in the film.

The show's exact title has yet to be revealed.
