In the Mumbai suburbs of India, more than 20 people perished after their homes were devastated by floods caused by heavy rain. More people are said to be buried beneath the rubble.
According to Indian media reports citing officials, at least 25 people were murdered in a series of building collapses in Mumbai on Sunday.
A retaining wall collapsed on dwellings on a hillside, killing 17 people. A landslide collapsed many cottages, killing seven more people, and a 16-year-old boy was also murdered in a similar occurrence.
As more persons are believed to be buried under the rubble, multiple rescue teams have been rushed to the impacted districts.
The families of the victims would be reimbursed from the state relief fund, according to Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Aside from landslides, the severe rains in Mumbai have caused power outages and interrupted rail services. Cars were swept up by the flood in videos shared on social media.
