According to a local police spokesman, six federal police personnel were injured in a suspected Daesh/ISIS attack in Iraq's northern Kirkuk province on Wednesday.
The officer spoke on the condition of anonymity because he was not authorized to speak to the media. Gunmen attacked a security checkpoint staffed by federal police in al-Rashad area, southwest of Kirkuk.
No one has claimed responsibility for the incident so far.
Terrorists affiliated with Daesh/ISIS have increased their attacks in recent months, particularly in the Triangle of Death, which runs through Kirkuk, Salahuddin, and Diyala.
Iraq declared victory over Daesh/ISIS in 2017, recovering all regions occupied by the terrorist group since the summer of 2014, which accounted for roughly a third of the country's territory.
The group, on the other hand, still has sleeper cells across wide parts of Iraq and conducts irregular attacks.
