US blocks websites related to Iran

According to comments placed on the websites Tuesday, US law enforcement seized the websites of two Iranian state-controlled news organizations, Press TV and Al-Alam, as well as the Al-Masirah TV channel of Yemen's Huthis.

Each site had a single page that stated that it had been "seized by the United States Government" and referred to US sanctions laws, along with the FBI and US Department of Commerce seals.

Iran's major English-language broadcaster is Press TV, and its main Arabic-language newscaster is Al-Alam.

Other online domains, including Palestine-Al Youm, a Palestinian-directed broadcaster, and an Arabic-language religious and cultural station, were also taken, according to the Islamic Republic of Iran Broadcasting (IRIB), which owns Al-Alam.

With the US Justice Department notice, domains linked to Iran-backed forces in Iraq and Hezbollah, the Lebanese military-political faction, were also frozen.

The IRIB accused the US of suppressing freedom of expression by collaborating with Israel and Saudi Arabia "to ban pro-resistance media channels exposing US allies' atrocities in the area."
