Netflix has removed After Life producer Charlie Hanson from the show after sexual misconduct claims were made against him.

Hanson's Bafta membership has also been suspended after women claimed historical sexual misconduct this week. Hanson has worked as a producer on programs such as Extras, Derek, and Birds of a Feather.

The story was initially reported by Broadcast, according to the BBC, and anonymous charges were forwarded to Netflix and Bafta on Monday (May 24). According to the New York Times, the allegations involve 11 women and include allegations of sexual assault.

Hanson has issued a statement through his lawyer, calling the charges "demonstrably false" and emphasizing that he "categorically rejects any misconduct."

"While the claims are unrelated to his tenure on the program, we promptly withdrew him from the production and submitted the situation to the authorities," Netflix said of Hanson's suspension from the comedy-drama After Life, which is now filming its third season.

"I was shocked and appalled to learn of the historical allegations made by a number of women against Charlie Hanson," said Ricky Gervais, who has worked with Hanson on a number of projects. "The decision was made to immediately remove him from production and I am confident the matter is being handled thoroughly," he added.

Bafta has also issued a statement, stating that the organization "quickly took the decision" to suspend Hanson's membership.

"The conduct alleged in these reports is repugnant, completely incompatible with Bafta standards, and has no place in our sector," it stated.

United Agents, Hanson's representatives, have stated that they are now not working with the producer, stating: "We were taken aback when we heard about the historic charges. We have suspended our representation of him while this incident is investigated ".

In a statement released through his lawyer, Hanson refuted the charges.

The statement states, "I have been made aware of claims made against me concerning improper conduct against women extending back many years." "I recognize that many of these claims are made anonymously and are patently incorrect, based on the summaries that have been provided to me.

"In my decades in the media profession, I have never received a complaint. I firmly deny any wrongdoing on my behalf and unequivocally deny the charges made against me.

"Throughout my career, I have worked with and supported hundreds of men and women, and I will do all possible to protect and/or restore my reputation. Any formal inquiries will also receive my cooperation. My lawyers are now in charge of the situation."
