Taliban has intensified its military offensives after the US and its ally failed to retreat from the region at the original deadline which was set on May 1.
The provinces of Lagham, Helmand, Kandahar, and Baghlan have witnessed an escalation of violence after the Taliban forces and the government forces have been involved in the firing. Thousands of people in the region have been displaced from their homes who have fled to seek safe shelter.
According to the U.N. Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA), as of May 21, about 100,000 people had been displaced by conflict in Afghanistan this year.
Taliban captured a district in the province of Lagham and launched an attack on the provincial capital Mehtar Lam City, where more than 6,000 families have been displaced.
The government has said it has assisted more than 1,000 displaced families and is working to provide assistance to others.
The US Biden administration, failing to retreat from the region at the first of May, has said it will finish the withdrawal of the troops by September 11.
