Animal Rebellion activists blockaded McDonald's distribution centers in the United Kingdom on Saturday, demanding that the multinational restaurant chain switch to plant-based foods.
According to the party, about 50 demonstrators used trucks and bamboo structures to block lorries from leaving McDonald's four distribution centers in the UK.
McDonald's UK has apologized to its customers for any inconvenience.
"We're looking at how deliveries to our restaurants and menu items would be affected," she said.
To interrupt the company's supply chain, the group said it would stay at the sites for at least 24 hours.
Animal Rebellion released photos of a replica of McDonald's golden M-shaped arches logo splattered with blood-like red paint, as well as demonstrators suspended in bamboo structures at the distribution center's gates.
"The meat and dairy industry is destroying our world," said James Ozden, a spokesman for Animal Rebellion. "It is causing massive amounts of rainforest destruction, releasing enormous amounts of greenhouse gases, and killing billions of animals each year."
"A plant-based food system is the only sustainable and practical way to feed 10 billion people. Organic, free-range, and ‘sustainable' animal-based alternatives are clearly insufficient."
Later on Saturday, the organization stated that police had informed activists at two of the four locations that they would not attempt to lift the blockades immediately, and that the blockades would remain in place until Sunday.
