While the world getting more progressive and ope about abortions, the US state of Texas has chosen to move backward.

Texas Governor Gregg Abbot Wednesday signed a bill, making it one of the most restrictive laws related to abortion in the United States.

The law bans abortion procedures to take place after six weeks of pregnancy, which has advocated a nationwide debate over women and reproductive rights. The law is almost an outright ban on abortion as many women are not aware of them being pregnant before the six-week mark.

The law described as  “heartbeat law” would allow any citizens to sue the surgeon if they are found to have involved in the abortion or arranging the abortion after six weeks

The Texas law arrives at a potentially pivotal moment in the long fight over abortion rights. This week the Supreme Court announced it would consider a case from Mississippi that could undermine Roe v. Wade, the 1973 decision that established a constitutional right to abortion.
