According to the Colorado Springs Gazette, a man opened fire inside a birthday party at a mobile home in Colorado Springs overnight, killing seven people.
The incident occurred at the Canterbury Mobile Home Park on the city's east side shortly after midnight on Sunday morning. Officers were called to a trailer after receiving a call of a shooting and discovered six adults dead and a man with serious injuries. According to a press release issued by Colorado Springs police on Sunday, the man later died at the hospital.
The perpetrator, a female victim's boyfriend, drove to a trailer where a birthday party was being held, complete with friends, relatives, and children.
He allegedly entered the party and started shooting partygoers before killing himself, according to police, who added that the children present "are now with relatives."
Mayor John Suthers of Colorado Springs described the mass shooting as a "senseless act of aggression" and pleaded for the public's patience as the police department conducts its investigation.
The investigation is still underway, and it is being led by the department's Violent Crimes Unit.
In late March, a shooting at a supermarket in Boulder, Colorado, killed ten people, including a police officer.
Ahmad Al Aliwi Alissa, a 21-year-old Arvada resident, was later named the gunman.
