The director for the US Centers for Diseases Control and Prevention, CDC, Rochelle Walensky, said on Wednesday that the United Kingdom Variant of the coronavirus is now the dominant variant in the country.
During a White House press briefing on Wednesday, Walensky said that the B.1.1.7 variant of the coronavirus is now the dominant variant on the county. Researches indicate that the B.1.1.7 variant to be more infectious and dangerous.
Walensky added that the variant may have been the cause of the increasing coronavirus cases over the last few weeks.
White House coronavirus advisor Dr. Michael Osterholm said the variant appears to have spread fast over the weekend and could lead to more lockdowns.
