Brazilian partner to China's Sinovac Biotech said that the COVID-19 vaccine is effective against the UK and SA variants, citing the test results in the Chinese Trial.
Reuters reported the news on Thursday (China Time). It quotes the head of the Butanan biomedical center in Sao Paolo, Dimas Covas, who said, "We have tested this vaccine in China against the English and the South African variants, with good results."
The biomedical center leads the domestic trials of the Chinese vaccine and is supplying doses to Brazil's Health Ministry.
Covas has not given more details on exactly how effective the vaccine was proved against these strains.
Butanan Biomedical Center is also testing vaccines against the Brazilian variant of the coronavirus, he said.
"Soon we will have the results and we are very positive it will do the job," he said.
