At least 53 people died when a passenger bus caught fire in Cameroon

At least 53 people have been killed in a fire on a passenger bus in Cameroon. 29 people have been seriously injured in the fire. 

The bus caught fire after colliding with a tanker carrying petroleum products on Wednesday afternoon.

Local officials said that the bodies of those killed in the accident have been burnt which has made identification difficult.

"The bodies of those killed in the crash are in a state of disrepair. They have not been identified," said the local governor, Ava Fongka Augustine.

 The bus involved in the accident had 70 seats. The accident took place in the mid-western region of the country on Wednesday at noon, local time.

Government officials said the incident is being investigated. According to preliminary details, the driver of the tanker carrying petroleum lost control and the accident took place.
