In a mostly catholic country of Argentina, the Abortion Legalization Bill came out pretty divisive. Hundreds of thousands of women who have been struggling for legalization of Abortion in the country, are rejoicing with the legalization of it, while there are anti-abortion activists who are protesting against this saying it a "worst day in Argentinian history".

Statistics suggest, more than half a million women underake abortion in Argentina every year,  despite of its illegality. A lot of those cases ended up in complications. The illegality of the abortion mostly affected women with lack of resources. Women rights activists say this as the matter of social justice.

Predominantly catholic country of Argentina is also the home country of Pope Francis. Besides the Abortion law, same sex marriage law and divorce law are also being strongly opposed. The Vatican Pope himself is actively lobbying against the law.

Previously, in 2018, Argentine Senate had rejected the bill to legalize abortion. Many practicing Catholics debaptized themselves and quit Church as an oppose to the Church influence in rejection of bill. Because they "did not want to be part of institution that is against human rights and women liberation."

Argentina, however is the only country to legalize abortion in Latin America other than Cuba and Uruguay. Cuba actually legalized the law in 1960s, after the Cuban revolution and Uruguay in 2012. Venezuela is other country where some form of abortion is legal , but only in specific cases such as women being raped during impregnation.

Soviet union was the first country to legalize abortion way back in 1920s. But abortion is still seen as a sin in many cultures and religions, often looked as something against 'act of god'.
