China reported 46 cases of the coronavirus in the mainland, the highest daily tally in more than a month, the National Health Commission said on Sunday.

Of the new infections, 22 cases were confirmed in Urumqi, a city in the far western region of Xinjiang, according to a statement by the National Health Commission.

Another 13 cases were confirmed in the northeastern province of Liaoning, bringing the total there to 25, while the remaining 11 were imported cases.

China reported 68 new asymptomatic cases of the infection.

China has recorded 83,830 confirmed coronavirus cases, with a death toll of 4,634 since the pandemic began.
