Poland’s conservative President Andrzej Duda has narrowly won a second five-year term in a bitterly fought with the liberal Warsow mayor, Rafal Trzaskowski in Sunday’s presidential vote.

The National Electoral Commission said that Duda had 51.2% of the votes from 99.97% districts. His opponent the liberal Warsow mayor had 48.79% of the total pushed vote. The exit poll estimated an election turnout of 68.9% which turn out to be highest in 25 years for a presidential election.

Poland’s incumbent declared victory in the country’s presidential election Sunday, but his opponent refused to accept defeat.

The final result, expected to be announced later on Monday, is likely to be the slimmest presidential election since the collapse of communism in 1989.

Mr. Duda a 48-year-old Catholic, is only the second Polish president to win re-election.

His victory will continue at least until parliamentary elections in 2023. Mr. Duda’s win is expected to take his further controversial reforms to the judiciary and continued opposition to abortion and gay rights.
