According to the state news agency SANA, Israeli airstrikes on Damascus, the capital of Syria, have left one Syrian soldier with "serious injuries" and inflicted material damage.

According to a military source cited by SANA, Syrian air defenses engaged Israeli missiles launched at 1:05 a.m. on Wednesday (22:05 GMT) from the Golan Heights and "downed some of them."

SANA reported that the Israeli adversary launched an aerial assault from the direction of the occupied Golan Heights against several positions southwest of Damascus.

The military source did not specify the attack's objectives, stating only that a soldier was "severely wounded" and that property was damaged.

The United Kingdom-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, which relies on an extensive network of sources in Syria, reported that the Israeli missile attack aimed "arms depots belonging to pro-Iran fighters and caused a fire."

Israeli attacks on Syria had killed at least 44 persons and injured more than 50 in the preceding twelve months.

For years, Israel has conducted hundreds of attacks against what it describes as Iranian-affiliated targets in Syria.

Although Israel rarely remarks on its attacks inside Syria, it has repeatedly stated that it will not permit Iran's military influence to expand into Syrian territory.
