A Chicago woman died days after being dragged from her car and shot during an incident caught on camera, which also murdered her partner and drew extra attention to the city's exceptionally violent year.

The Cook County medical examiner's office said Monday that Yasmin Perez, 23, had died. Gyovanny Arzuaga, 24, was shot in the head and killed three days earlier in Chicago's Humboldt Park neighborhood following a Puerto Rican Day procession.

The couple, who had two children, was attacked after a minor traffic accident, according to authorities.

Vickie Ponciano, Arzuaga's aunt, weeping today as she said, "They left their infants."
Following the crash, several guys ambushed the couple in the middle of a street, according to police. The tragic attack was captured on camera and widely circulated online, gaining national attention in the wake of recent bloodshed, which included a mass shooting that killed five people.

President Joe Biden will announce new initiatives tomorrow in an attempt to stem a rising national tide of violent crime, with a particular focus on gun violence. Perez was taken from a gray SUV with a Puerto Rican flag poking out of the window, according to video from the incident. A gunman in a white tank top shot Arzuaga, who was seen on the ground nearly covering her.
