Police in South Africa is investigating the murders of at least 21 people at a nightclub in the seaside city of East London on Sunday, with authorities stating that most casualties were children as young as 13 years old.
The unknown is the cause of death for the young individuals attending a party to celebrate the end of winter school examinations.
The local daily Daily Dispatch said there were no evident signs of injury on the bodies lying across tables and chairs.
"At this time, we cannot confirm the cause of death," said Siyanda Manana, a representative for the health department.
As quickly as feasible, we will conduct autopsies to determine the likely cause of death.
Bheki Cele, the minister of police, stated that the victims' ages ranged from 13 to 17, which raises the question of why the minors were provided alcohol.
President Cyril Ramaphosa conveyed his sympathies to the bereaved families.
Ramaphosa stated, "The president is concerned about the reported circumstances under which such young people were gathered at a venue that, on the surface, should be off-limits to persons under the age of 18."
The number of fatalities increased to 21.
The club's owner, Siyakhangela Ndevu, told local media that he was summoned to the scene early on Sunday morning.
"I am still uncertain as to what actually transpired, but when I was called in the morning, I was informed that the tavern was overcrowded and that people were attempting to force their way inside," he stated.
However, we will listen to what the police say regarding the cause of death.
