After a massacre at an elementary school in Uvalde, Texas, which resulted in 19 children and two adults' deaths, US President Joe Biden urged the nation to "act" on gun regulation.

After the killing at Robb Elementary school, he said in an emotionally charged statement at the White House, "When in the name of God are we going to stand up to the gun lobby?"

When will we all do what we all know must be done in the name of God?

This is the bloodiest school massacre in the United States since a shooter killed 20 children and six adults at Sandy Hook Elementary in Newtown, Connecticut, nearly a decade ago.

Mr. Biden, who lost a son and a daughter, remarked, "Why are we willing to live with this devastation? Why do we continue to allow this to occur? Where, in the name of God, is our backbone?"

It is now time to act.

Mr. Biden stated, "These kinds of mass shootings are uncommon elsewhere." "Why?"

In honor of the deaths in Texas, he ordered that flags be flown at half-staff through sunset on Saturday.

Earlier, Vice President Kamala Harris stated, "Our hearts are broken, but they continue to be broken... Moreover, our broken hearts pale in comparison to those of those families.

"We must have the courage to act... to ensure that something similar never occurs again."

Biden also asked the nation to pray for the deceased's parents and siblings. "Losing a child is comparable to losing a piece of your soul," he remarked.

Kate Bedingfield, director of communications for the White House, stated that Vice President Biden talked with Texas Governor Greg Abbott from the presidential plane "to offer any assistance he may require in the wake of the horrific shooting in Uvalde, Texas."

Senator Chris Murphy, who represents the Sandy Hook constituency, 'begged' his colleagues to pass gun control legislation earlier.

"I'm here on this floor to beg my coworkers on my hands and knees. Discover a way forward here. "Help us find a way to pass laws that reduce the likelihood of this happening," he urged.
