According to bereaved relatives, an ex-British soldier fighting for Ukraine has perished on the front lines in the Donbas region.
The devastated parents of Jordan Gatley posted on Facebook that their son had been shot and murdered by Russian soldiers in the eastern city of Severodonetsk, which is now reportedly at least two-thirds under Russian control.
On Saturday, Jordan's father, Dean Gatley, stated, "He was a true hero and will forever remain in our hearts."
"In March of this year, Jordan departed the British Army to pursue his career as a soldier in other areas. The fight against Europe had begun, therefore after considerable deliberation, he traveled to the Ukraine to assist," the father explained.
The actual date and age of Jordan's death are unknown.
His father stated, "We have received numerous messages from his team praising his wealth of knowledge, his skills as a soldier, and his passion for his job." "His team says they all loved him, as did we, and he made a tremendous difference in the lives of a great number of people, not only by serving as a soldier but also by training the Ukrainian forces."
In recent days, Severodonetsk has been the epicenter of Russia's assault on Ukraine as the Kremlin intensifies its plot to take the Donbas region. According to the Ukrainians and the Russians, the fighting resulted in substantial losses for the opposing side.
Last week, two other British nationals fighting for Ukraine were arrested by Russian forces and sentenced to death.
The leader of the separatist Donetsk region of Ukraine, supported by Russia, stated on Sunday that the two troops would not be pardoned since they engaged in "mercenary activities." Additionally, the Russians seized a Moroccan volunteer for Ukraine.
