In announcing a COVID-19 outbreak on its territory earlier this month, North Korea stated that approximately 186,000 new instances of fever and another death had been detected on Sunday.

During 24 hours ending at 6 p.m. the previous day, more than 186,090 people exhibited fever symptoms, with one more fatality reported, according to the official Korean Central News Agency (KCNA), citing data from the state emergency epidemic prevention headquarters.

It increased the death toll to 67 and the fatality rate to 0.003%, according to the KCNA.

Since late April, more than 2.64 million fever cases have been registered in the nation with a population of 24 million; more than 2.06 million have recovered, and at least 579,390 are receiving treatment, according to the KCNA.

The secretive North revealed its first confirmed case of the omicron type on May 12. Numerous North Korean observers have expressed alarm about the impoverished nation's health care system, namely its coronavirus testing capabilities. They further assert that Pyongyang may be underreporting the number of symptomatic patients and related deaths.
