A local police officer stated that he was also informed that a stampede occurred on the streets of Itaewon during Halloween celebrations. The officer requested anonymity, citing an ongoing investigation into the incident's specifics.

Earlier local media reports stated that the crash occurred because many people rushed to a bar in Itaewon after hearing that an unidentified celebrity had visited.

President Yoon Suk Yeol of South Korea issued a statement urging officials to ensure prompt medical care for the injured and review the safety of the celebration sites.

In addition, he ordered the Health Ministry to rapidly deploy disaster medical assistance teams and secure hospital beds for treating the injured.

Local media reported that approximately 100,000 people flocked to the streets of Itaewon for the Halloween celebrations, which were the largest since the start of the pandemic due to the recent easing of Covid-19 restrictions.
