The UEFA Champions League Final has been officially shifted from Krestovsky Stadium at St Petersburg, Russia to Stade de France in Paris.

UEFA took the decision of stripping off Russia from the event after it started its "military operation" in Ukraine.

UEFA issued a statement which said, "The UEFA executive committee decided to relocate the final of the 2021-22 UEFA Men's Champions League from St Petersburg to Stade de France in St Denis. The game will be played as initially scheduled on Saturday, May 28 at 2100 CET."

"UEFA wishes to express its thanks and appreciation to French Republic president Emmanuel Macron for his personal support and commitment to have European club football's most prestigious game moved to France at a time of unparalleled crisis," the statement further noted.

This will be the sixth time that the greater Paris area has hosted Europe's largest club game.

The inaugural European Cup final was one of three held at the Parc des Princes, while the third will be held at the Stade de France, which was built for the 1998 World Cup.

Real Madrid defeated Valencia in 2000, and six years later, Barcelona defeated Arsenal with two late goals.

UEFA also declared that until further notice, Russian and Ukrainian club and national teams will be compelled to play their UEFA-organized home games at neutral locations.

Spartak Moscow is in the round of 16 for the Europa League, while both national teams are competing in the Nations League this summer.

Ukraine is scheduled to meet Scotland at Hampden Park in Glasgow, but their preparations will undoubtedly be hampered by the suspension of their domestic league. FIFA President Gianni Infantino has stated that he hopes the dispute can be settled in time for these tournaments.
