Russia vetoed a United Nations Security Council resolution condemning its invasion of Ukraine on Friday, while China, India, and the United Arab Emirates abstained.

The remaining 11 council members voted in favor, allowing the draft resolution to be considered by the UN General Assembly's 193 members.

The United States Ambassador Linda Thomas warned Russia, "You can veto the resolution, but can not veto our voices."

The representative of Moscow said that the Resolution was one-sided.

Later, UN Secretary-General António Guterres announced the nomination of Sudanese national Amin Awad as assistant secretary-general to serve as the UN's crisis coordinator in Ukraine.

Awad formerly served as the UN's regional refugee coordinator for the Syria and Iraq situations, as well as the head of the Middle East and North Africa Bureau at the UN High Commissioner for Refugees.
