Argentine President Alberto Fernández arrived today in this capital on an official visit, as part of a tour that previously took him to Russia and China.
He arrived at Seawell, 12 kilometers from Bridgetown, with his entourage at Grantley Adams International Airport, where he was welcomed by Jerome Walcott, Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Trade.
On Tuesday, the Argentine President will meet with Barbadian Prime Minister Mia Mottley.
Simone Rudder, the permanent secretary for that portfolio, and Resa Layne, the Director of Protocol, were also present.
Fernández will attend multiple bilateral discussions during his first visit to Barbados, as well as participate in a conference with delegates from the Organization of Eastern Caribbean States.
He'll meet with Mottley at the Lloyd Erskine Sandiford Center tomorrow to evaluate relations and discuss other regional issues.
The schedule will include a tour of the National Botanical Garden, during which the head of state will go to the West Coast Footbridge for a guided tour, during which the prime minister will deliver details on the Caribbean nation's climate change measures.
Mottley was elected prime minister in 2018 and was re-elected with a resounding win last month, making her the first woman to hold the position.
In November of last year, Barbados adopted the form of a Republic, for which it ceased to be part of the British Monarchy and the figure of the Governor-General was replaced by that of the President, with a mandate that lasts four years.
