The trial of infamous tycoon Jeffrey Epstein's ex-girlfriend Ghislaine Maxwell for sex trafficking is due to begin in New York.

From 1994 until 2004, the British socialite denies hiring minors who were not yet adults for Epstein to sexually assault.

Maxwell, the late media magnate Robert Maxwell's daughter, has been imprisoned in the United States since her arrest in July of last year.

Her brother, Ian Maxwell, previously stated that his sister is being detained in "effective isolation" at the Metropolitan Detention Centre in Brooklyn, where she is being confined in a 6ft by 9ft cell with no natural light, a toilet, and a concrete bed.

Epstein died in a Brooklyn jail in 2019 while being detained on allegations of juvenile sex trafficking in Florida and New York.

According to court filings, Maxwell intends to fight the allegations against her by saying the claimed victims have "false or distorted memories."

The complete indictment cites six allegations against her, including conspiracy to lure minors to travel to participate in unlawful sex acts, inducement of a juvenile to travel to engage in illegal sex acts, and conspiracy to transport kids with the purpose to engage in criminal sexual behavior.

Maxwell is also charged with conveying a kid with the purpose to participate in illegal sexual behavior, sex trafficking conspiracy, and minor sex trafficking.

She is also accused of lying under oath by concealing her involvement in Epstein's crimes during a separate civil lawsuit.

She has vehemently denied all claims.

The trial is set to begin with opening remarks on Monday and is slated to last six weeks.
