A former Michigan State basketball player has been identified as the suspect in a fatal shooting that occurred late Saturday in Detroit.
According to a police news release, Keith Appling, 29, was wanted in connection with the shooting death of a 66-year-old man. The slain man was not found right away.
Appling and the man allegedly got into a physical altercation Saturday evening, according to police. Appling is accused of shooting the man several times, killing him. Appling fled the scene, according to police, and has yet to be apprehended.
From 2010 to 2014, Appling was a member of the Michigan State football team. He has played basketball for the Orlando Magic on two separate occasions.
