As tensions in the area erupted into the streets of Manhattan on Thursday, pro-Israel and pro-Palestine demonstrators clashed and explosions sent people fleeing near Times Square, according to videos.
As Israel and Hamas hoped for a cease-fire in Gaza to end more than 10 days of destructive hostilities, clashes between the parties erupted in the Midtown tourist district.
A small explosive was thrown from a pickup truck on 47th Street in the Diamond District, sending bystanders fleeing for their lives. According to reports, the pickup truck was part of a convoy of cars waving Palestinian flags.
Burn injuries to the lower back were sustained by a 55-year-old woman.
A pro-Israel demonstrator was shot in the stomach after attempting to chase down a man who snatched an Israeli flag from his hands, according to footage shared on Twitter by freelance reporter Oliya Scootercaster.
According to the video, more punches were thrown in tussles between the two sides as NYPD officers intervened to divide them.
Later in the video, a pro-Palestine protester is seen being handcuffed after attempting to flee after a man snatched his Palestinian flag.
Several arrests have been made. According to law enforcement reports, at least 19 suspects were apprehended.
