Prosecutors said a Queens man was charged on Sunday with fatally beating and sexually assaulting his 65-year-old mother.
According to Queens District Attorney Melinda Katz, Pushkar Sharma, 28, allegedly killed Soraj Sharma at their home in Jamaica around 8 a.m. the morning before Mother's Day.
Prosecutors say the suspect grabbed his mother from behind, choked and punched her before she fell to the ground.
The son reportedly escalated the attack after his mother was knocked out, strangling and hitting her before sexually abusing her, according to the DA.
Officials said the woman passed away after losing consciousness.
“What should have been a joyous Mother's Day celebration for a Queens family turned into a vicious, tragic nightmare,” Katz said in a statement.
Following his suspected murder, the son surrendered to police and allegedly confessed.
Two charges of murder and sexual assault have been filed against the defendant.
