Following Nicola Sturgeon's fourth term as leader of the pro-independence Scottish National Party, UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson has decided to hold crisis talks on the state of the union.
With 64 seats, the SNP falls one vote short of an overall majority in the Scottish parliament elections, but Holyrood still has a majority in favor of Scottish independence.
Ms Sturgeon said in her victory speech that the outcome demonstrated that a second independence referendum was the "will of the government" and that any Westminster politician who opposed it was "picking a battle with the democratic wishes of the Scottish people."
