Japan Prime Minister Yoshihide Suga is expected to be the first foreign leader to meet US president Joe Biden at the White House, as he plans to visit America in the first week of April.
Japan's Chief Cabinet Secretary said that the Prime minister is expected to visit Biden on a trip that will be taking place in the first half of April.
Kato said that the two leaders will discuss important issues including climate change, the pandemic, economy, etc. the two leaders are expected to touch on the issues with China and the DPRK.
Japan has been raising eyebrows at the increasing presence of the Chinese military in the South China Sea.
Japan controls the Chinese claimed Senkaku Islands, where China has been increasing its military presence with manmade islands.
“We hope to further strengthen our bilateral relations including the Japan-US alliance and to confirm our close cooperation toward achieving a free and open Indo-Pacific,” Cabinet secretary Kato said.
“It would be a good opportunity for us to show the rest of the world the close unity of the Japan-US alliance and the US commitment to the Indo-Pacific region,” he added.
