The world is constantly evolving, and along with it, its associated industries – be it the hospitality, business management, media industry, or Information Technology. With change being the only constant, it makes it all the more important for students to keep up with the changes – to be future-ready.
The modern day’s job market is getting competitive by the day. With increasing numbers of graduates entering the workplace, experiential learning opportunities have become crucial to get the best value from an educational degree. At DV Education Network, they have realized this – therefore, have placed the need for students to be industry-ready at the heart of their curriculums. They have skillfully integrated conventional education methods with meaningful real-world experiences to enable a student to become industry-ready and excel within the national, or the global workforce.
According to Tarun Pratap Shah, Managing Director of DV Education Network, “Globally, leading universities to place a strong emphasis on a student’s overall development which is executed via well-planned, supervised, and assessed experiential learning programs. These experiences stimulate academic inquiry by promoting interdisciplinary learning, career development, and leadership among other skills. DV Education, therefore, emphasizing global education and industry trends, is working towards helping Nepal’s youth become industry-ready when they graduate”.
Founded in 2016, DV Education is primarily working towards pioneering an educational approach within Nepal’s Business Administration, Hotel Management, Media Technology, and IT sectors. Shubhashree College, affiliated with Pokhara University has been imparting valuable industry knowledge and skills to Nepal’s youth with their Bachelors in Business Administration (BBA) and Bachelors in Hotel Management (BHM) programs since 2013 A.D. Shepherd College, providing Bachelors and Master’s Degree in Media Technology has been gearing students with value-driven education materials since 2002 A.D. Triton International SS College, established in 1999 AD is currently providing Kindergarten to Grade 12 to Bachelors in Computer Application (BCA), Bachelors in Business Studies (BBS), Bachelors in Social Works (BSW) and Masters in Business Studies (MBS) programs.
Centrally located in Kathmandu’s New Baneshwor area, all institutions feature state of the art campuses with necessary resources and an impressive faculty – however, according to Kabita Sharma, Vice Principal at Shepherd College, they aspire to provide more:
“Along with a well-equipped campus, and a highly qualified faculty, we strived to stand out within Nepal’s educational industry. That we realized we could do so by adding more value to the lives of our students. Our curriculum has been designed to keep our students at the core and answers one simple question. How can a graduate from DV Education Network stand out, and excel in their life?”
“We believe, education should not be limited to the classroom – and have incorporated various activities including on-site training, personal development, and career counseling. We assess the student’s aptitude, and help the student focus more on their core strengths”, she adds.
Real-world experience:
DV Education as a group, therefore, focuses on a student’s overall growth and has seamlessly balanced its curriculum with conventional classroom lectures (theoretical) and real-world experience. In its Bachelors of Hotel Management course, students are allowed to gain industry experience through internships and other job experiences. According to Shah, “Hospitality is a booming industry in Nepal and abroad – however, it is also an ever-changing industry. Students need to be equipped with the right set of skills to thrive within the hospitality sector. DV Education, realizing the need, adapts and modifies its courses to global and national hospitality trends”.
Via adopting these measures, DV Education Group not only equips a student with the necessary skills to pursue a successful career in hospitality but also nurtures the entrepreneurial spirit of an individual. A student is taught about the nature of the industry, exposed to a wide range of case studies, therefore instilling analytical skills to make informed business decisions.
Their BBA program also introduces a wide range of real-world experiences which include internships and placements. Students are also provided with real-life case studies, and are asked to use their methodical skills to provide answers as to ‘how would they have done things differently in the same scenario’? By doing so, the student is automatically trained how to think in similar situations in the future.
Similarly, because the Media Technology field is one of the most swiftly changing industries, students are prepared likewise. They are encouraged to explore different mediums – text, visual, and multimedia. With the digital media landscape being one of the most dominant forms of media, students are exhaustively taught about its use and implications – all the while imparting knowledge about the history of the media industry too.
Shepherd College also regularly invites leading journalists as guest lecturers – who in turn share their valuable experience with the students. “Many times, students are motivated to pursue a meaningful career after such interactions”, Ms. Arati Shilpakar, Media Educator and Exam Coordinator of Shepherd College shares her experience about such sessions.
Strong connections to the industry:
While providing valuable real-world experience, DV Education Group has also worked in creating strong connections with their relevant industries. For example, DV Education partners with leading organizations within the same industry to provide their students the best real-life experiences. Students of Shubhashree College are provided with opportunities to intern in leading banks and hotels of Nepal. Such connections, while building experience, also enable a student to aim higher.
Similarly, Shepherd College also organizes media workshops and provides internship opportunities with Nepal’s leading media and communication houses.
DV Education has always believed that quality education is essential for the development of Nepal. With three educational institutions in Kathmandu, and plans to add more, DV Education continuously helps students achieve their personal goals through value-driven education, which in turn contribute towards the growth of Nepal.
