China's navy announced on Thursday that it has tracked and driven away a US destroyer that had unlawfully entered South China Sea seas near the Paracel Islands.
The military stated that the guided-missile destroyer Milius unlawfully entered China's territorial seas, disrupting peace and stability in the busy waterway.
China's Southern Theatre Command spokesman Tian Junli stated, "The theatre forces will maintain a high state of alert at all times and take all necessary measures to resolutely safeguard national sovereignty and security, as well as peace and stability in the South China Sea."
In this region, tensions between the United States and China have increased.
The United States has been strengthening Asia-Pacific alliances to confront China's aggression in the South China Sea and Taiwan Strait, where Beijing is advancing its territorial claims.
