It will compete against Netflix Inc.'s South Korean thriller "Squid Game," which is the first non-English language program to receive an Emmy nomination.
The film "Squid Game" is about cash-strapped contestants who compete for prize money, often with disastrous results.
"Stranger Things," on Netflix and "Euphoria," on HBO, both about youths juggling sex, drugs, and social media, were also nominated for the drama trophy at television's highest honors.

Hannah Waddingham, who won an Emmy for supporting actress for "Lasso" last year, was surprised by her second nomination since she believed: "I've had my minute."
"It's a bit of a magic moment for all of us," she remarked of the show's cast. Ten actors from "Lasso" were nominated.
The HBO series "The White Lotus," about visitors and workers at an upscale beachside resort, received twenty nominations and a spot in the field for best-limited series.
Emmy winners will be announced on September 12.
Frank Scherma, chief executive officer of the Television Academy, stated that the organization received a record number of entries this year, indicating that production was thriving following the COVID-19 outbreak.
Nominations dominated the nominations for streaming television shows, continuing a trend as people rush to internet viewing. HBO and HBO Max earned 140 nominations, and Netflix received 105.
