The White House stated on Monday that it believes Iran is supplying Russia with hundreds of uncrewed aerial vehicles, including armed drones, for use in the current conflict in Ukraine.

Jake Sullivan, the US National Security Adviser, stated that it was unknown whether Iran had already supplied any unmanned systems to Russia but that the US has "information" that Iran is planning to train Russian personnel to operate them as early as this month.

"According to our information, the Iranian government is preparing to expeditiously provide Russia with up to several hundred UAVs, including weapons-capable UAVs," he told reporters on Monday.

This is evidence, according to Sullivan, that Russia's heavy bombardments in Ukraine, which have allowed it to solidify advances in the country's east over the past few weeks, are "taking a toll on its ability to sustain its own weapons."

On the eve of US Vice President Joe Biden's trip to Israel and Saudi Arabia, where Iran's nuclear program and harmful actions in the area will be a central topic of conversation, Sullivan's disclosure has been made public.

Israel and Saudi Arabia have resisted joining global attempts to punish Russia for its invasion of Ukraine owing to their internal interests. As a result, the US has publicly announced that the two countries' biggest regional foe was assisting in rearming Russia.

Sullivan also mentioned that Iran sent similar unmanned aerial vehicles to Houthi rebels in Yemen to target Saudi Arabia until a ceasefire was achieved this year.

Recently, Defense Minister Benny Gantz discussed US-led efforts to build a regional air defense pact between Israel and its Arab allies in the region against the threat posed by Iranian drones and missiles. Gantz stated on Monday that he would update Biden on the alliance's accomplishments during the president's visit to Israel.

Last week, the Hezbollah terrorist organization launched three Iranian drones against an Israeli offshore gas field, according to Gantz.
