The collapse of a portion of a stand at a bullring in the Colombian town of El Espinal on Sunday (June 26) resulted in the deaths of four people and the injuries of over 70 more, according to provincial authorities.
Social media videos depicted a section of the structure collapsing into the ring, where residents were engaged in a bull-running event commemorating the feast day of Saints Peter and Paul.
"There are four dead at this moment - two women, a man and a minor," Tolima provincial governor Jose Ricardo Orozco told local radio station Blu.
Major Luis Fernando Velez, the head of civil defense in the province, informed local Caracol television that no one remained stuck under the debris, and several of the missing have been located.
"The emergency situation at the scene of the incident has been resolved. More than 70 individuals were injured "Velez claimed.
Velez stated that ambulances from the neighboring communities of Ibague and Melgar were dispatched to El Espinal's hospital to assist the injured, who had overrun the facility, and that the stand looked made of wooden planks.
