Sunday, Palestinian officials reported that Israeli forces shot and killed a Palestinian who attempted to penetrate Israel's security barrier from the occupied West Bank.

The Israeli military reported that soldiers in the city of Qalqilya spotted a suspect damaging the security fence and attempting to enter Israel. According to the report, the soldiers opened fire, and the situation is still being investigated.

During the height of the Palestinian uprising, Israel established a barrier along the West Bank border to prevent suicide bombers from entering the country. Palestinians term it a land grab.

According to the Palestinian Foreign Ministry, Sunday's shooting was a "field execution."

According to the Palestinian workers union, approximately 165,000 Palestinians cross with work permits into Israel daily, while thousands more cross each week illegally, bypassing checkpoints through holes in the security fence.
