BTS, the South Korean group that sparked a global K-pop sensation, is taking a vacation to work on solo projects, the group's members said on Tuesday.

At the annual FESTA dinner celebrating the group's founding, band member RM expressed a desire to explore his work sans the regular recording and performing demands of BTS.

"The issue with K-pop and the entire idol culture is that there is no time for maturation. You must continue making music and accomplishing something "RM stated in Korean while sitting at a table with his six fellow bandmates.

A video of the supper was uploaded to the band's Twitter account.

A translation of the member's comments into English revealed that he referred to the break as a "hiatus," a term that a band spokesman disputed in a statement.

"To be clear, they are not on hiatus but will take time to explore some solo projects at this time and remain active in various different formats," the statement clarified.

BTS debuted in June 2013 and quickly became a global phenomenon with its peppy songs and social efforts focused on uplifting youth. The group's new album, "Proof," was released on Friday.

BTS was the first Asian group to win artist of the year at the American Music Awards in 2017. In May, the organization met with Vice President Joe Biden at the White House to examine Asian-targeted hate crimes.
