Justin Bieber has disclosed that he cannot blink or grin on the right side of his face due to a rare neurological disease.
The 28-year-old said in an Instagram video that he would be canceling upcoming performances due to his treatment for Ramsay Hunt syndrome.
Bieber demonstrated that he could not blink his right eye, a smile on the right side of his face, or move his right nose.
He has also stated that eating has been "progressively harder" for him.
Bieber stated, "For those who are frustrated by the cancellations of the next shows, I'm just physically, obviously, not capable of doing them,"
This situation is exceptionally grave.
He continued by saying he was sleeping and performing facial workouts to return his face "to normal."
"We don't know how much time that's going to be but it's going to be OK," he said.
"I have hope, believe in God, and think that everything happens for a purpose.
"I'm not sure what that is right now but in the meantime I'm going to rest and I love you guys."
A few hours after the initial video, Bieber posted an Instagram story in which he wrote, "Been getting progressively harder for me to eat, which has been extremely frustrating please pray for me."
How is Ramsay Hunt syndrome defined?
Ramsay Hunt syndrome is an uncommon but severe disorder.
The same virus causes it as shingles and chickenpox.
Among the symptoms are facial paralysis or weakness, an ear rash, hearing loss, tinnitus, dry mouth, and a change or loss of taste.
The Ramsay Hunt syndrome is treatable with antiviral drugs and corticosteroids.
Nevertheless, facial paralysis and hearing loss might be lifelong for specific individuals.
The Ramsay Hunt syndrome is comparable to Bell's palsy, another illness that causes facial paralysis but is more severe.
Last year, NSW Customer Service Minister Victor Dominello was diagnosed with Bell's palsy after concerned press conference attendees asked him to seek medical assistance for his drooping face.
