The captain of a Turkish AnadoluJet flight halted takeoff at Israel's main airport after passengers received footage of a plane disaster on their mobile devices.

According to the Israeli aviation authorities, the incident occurred as the airplane was taxiing at Ben Gurion Airport.

The passengers and crew were removed from the aircraft, and the baggage was reinspected.

Several young Israelis have been identified as suspects and are currently being interrogated. After receiving clearance to depart, the jet took off five hours later.

The AnadoluJet Boeing 737, with 160 people, was on its approach to the takeoff position when passengers informed personnel that they had received the images. The captain was notified and opted to return to the terminal.

AirDrop is an Apple tool that enables users to communicate data from one Apple device to another across short distances, as reported by Ynet's Hebrew news website. It was stated that all photographs were received on iPhones.

Ynet reported that the photographs depicted a Turkish Airlines airliner that crashed in the Netherlands in 2009 and another plane disaster in the United States in 2013.

The passengers were given the option of reboarding the reinspected Istanbul-bound flight or remaining in Israel.

The incident occurred two weeks after another security concern at Ben Gurion Airport. At check-in, a family from the United States produced a live artillery shell that they intended to take home as a keepsake.

After slipping over a conveyor belt in panic, one traveler required hospital care to exit the area.
