"Twitter will always be free for casual users," Musk stated in a tweet. "However, there may be a small fee for commercial/government users."

Reuters' request for comment to Twitter was not immediately responded to.

Since last month, Tesla CEO Elon Musk has proposed a slew of modifications to Twitter. Musk recently added the company to his basket. They said he intended to enhance the platform by making the algorithms open source to increase trust, combating spam bots, and authenticating all humans.

Musk proposed a few improvements to the Twitter Blue premium subscription service last month, even before striking an agreement with Twitter. These included a price cut.

Musk announced Monday at the annual Met Gala in New York that he would make Twitter's promotion and demotion of tweets visible. The company's algorithms will be made publicly available for scrutiny.
