Israeli security forces foiled the attempted smuggling of 100 grenades into the nation from Lebanon on Monday night, the Israeli Police stated Tuesday. According to authorities, the fragmentation grenades were most likely intended for use in terror strikes.

Israeli military spotters observed suspicious behavior near the border fence and notified a nearby police border patrol unit, according to police. Officers discovered a bag containing the explosives and a pair of pistols during a search of the area.

According to police, the smuggling attempt, like others in recent months, bore the hallmarks of Hezbollah involvement.

The statement stated that the Lebanese Shi'ite terror group was "working through Israeli criminals to bring weapons into the territory of the State of Israel." "Hezbollah is in charge of weapon acquisition and guarantees that a portion of them is reserved for terrorist actions. This way, it attempts to establish a foundation for terror attacks within the state," it continued.

They remarked that this was the first time police had confiscated fragmentation grenades, adding that they were presumably intended for use in densely populated civilian areas.

Israel has confiscated 148 pistols, 23 assault weapons, and narcotics worth millions of dollars at the country's borders since the start of the year, according to police estimates.

On Monday, the Israeli police and military revealed that they had foiled an effort to smuggle a big consignment of weapons into the nation from Jordan.

According to authorities, one suspect, a Jericho resident, was arrested in connection with the event.
