She returned to Greece earlier in the week after a visit to a number of Greek-speaking villages in Southern Italy last weekend.
Sakellaropoulou visited villages in Salento, Italy, where the Greek dialect of Griko is still spoken by thousands of people.
The Greek President was welcomed to the region by Roberto Casaluci, the President of the regions’ Union of Greek-speaking Communities, in honor of the 20th anniversary of the group’s founding.
Last week Sakelleropoulou opened the Delphi Economic Forum where she the “war in Ukraine froze historical time and space,” highlighting the nuclear threat but also the need for the West to regroup against revisionist and violent practices.
In this context, the EU and Greece sided with the law, that is, with the Ukrainian people. “The EU and Greece are today bridges of peace and security, in the world and in the region,” she said.
