The music business will bestow its highest honors on Sunday, with acts ranging from adolescent phenom Olivia Rodrigo to award-winning Billie Eilish and rapper Lil Nas X competing at a star-studded Grammys presentation in Las Vegas.
Grammy observers believe it's difficult to guess who will win the major awards except for best new artist, which is widely expected to go to Rodrigo, who is 19 years old. In early 2021, her song "drivers license" went viral.
Rodrigo is also up for the album, single, and record of the year nominations. If she sweeps all four primary categories, she will become only the third person in Grammy history to do so.
The most recent performer to accomplish that feat was Eilish, who was 18 at the 2020 Grammys. With "Happier Than Ever." Eilish, now 20, is again in the running for album of the year.
Rodrigo's "Sour," Kanye West's "Donda," Jon Batiste's "We Are," and Tony Bennett and Lady Gaga's "Love for Sale." are among the album nominees.
"Justice" by Justin Bieber is also included, as is Doja Cat's "Planet Her," H.E.R.'s "Back of My Mind," Lil Nas X's "Montero," and Taylor Swift's "Evermore."
Batiste leads all candidates with 11 nominations, ranging from classical composition and American origins to his music video "Freedom" and album "We Are," which were inspired by the 2020 Black Lives Matter rallies.
The Grammys were moved from January to April this year due to a COVID-19 outbreak at the start of the year. The date change necessitated a venue shift from Los Angeles to Las Vegas's M.G.M... Grand Garden Arena.
Last year, the epidemic necessitated a scaled-down outdoor event without tens of thousands of attendees.
B.T.S.... is one of the acts scheduled to play on the Grammys stage this Sunday. The quartet, which has yet to win a Grammy, enters the evening with a single nomination for their chart-topping single "Butter."
Additionally, Eilish, Gaga, Brandi Carlile, and Bieber are expected to perform. Bruno Mars and Anderson form the combo Silk Sonic. Paak will begin the performance, televised live on C.B.S.... and the Paramount+ streaming service. Trevor Noah, the comedian, returns as host.
The Grammys' eligibility period went from September 2020 to September 2021, finishing before Adele's critically praised album "30." was published.
