New Zealand announced Thursday would welcome up to 450 refugees in the next three years held in the Australian processing center in Nauru, a small island nation in the Pacific.
Refugees who tried to get to Australia by boat have spent years on remote islands, which causes them to ruin their mental health.
New Zealand is pleased and relieved that Australia has accepted the offer to resettle 150 refugees annually for three years, stated New Zealand Immigration Minister Kris Faafoi.
Australian Home Secretary also stated that the refugees would not be accepted if they tried to arrive illegally by the sea in Australia shortly.
