Oscar Isaac, a Hollywood actor, takes on multiple characters and dons a cape and an English accent in "Moon Knight," Marvel's latest superhero series.
Isaac will represent "at least four" different characters in the upcoming Disney+ drama, based on a lesser-known Marvel hero.
"That was part of the challenge and the excitement of taking this on, the opportunity to show so many facets of one individual and really explore in a literal and symbolic way the different identities that he has," Isaac told Reuters on Thursday as he premiered the series at the British Museum.
In a departure from the comic books, where Moon Knight's alter ego is Jewish-American mercenary Marc Spector, Isaac portrays gift store employee Steven Grant. Recollections of Spector torment the sleep-deprived Londoner.
"The emotional reality of battling this condition, and not only that, but also the road of recovery from abuse and trauma, became the overarching guiding topic of the entire project. Everything you perceive, even the most outlandish symbolic imagery, is a manifestation of that internal conflict "As Isaac stated.
Ethan Hawke co-stars with Isaac as the antagonist Arthur Harrow.
"In our novel, the protagonist is battling mental illness, which presented a significant challenge for me because the opponent must be something else. To compete with the crazed hero, I needed to construct a very rational lunatic "Hawke stated.
Isaac urged Hawke, a fellow New Yorker, to take on the part during an accidental encounter.
"Occasionally, things simply fall into place, correct? I met him at a New York coffee shop and he explained that he was doing this and that he needed someone to join him... 'However, give me an offer,' I stated "Hawke stated.
The series, created by Egyptian filmmaker Mohamed Diab, also stars French actor Gaspard Ulliel, who died on January 19uary, in a skiing accident in the French Alps.
On March 30, Disney+ will debut "Moon Knight."
