Snoop Dogg has purchased Death Row Records, which catapulted him to fame.
The US rapper, known for his laid-back demeanor, described the experience as "extremely meaningful" and expressed excitement about the label's "next chapter."
It comes just days before Snoop is scheduled to perform alongside Dr. Dre, Eminem, Mary J Blige, and Kendrick Lamar at the Super Bowl LVI half-time concert in Los Angeles.
Snoop Dogg, born Calvin Broadus Jr. in Long Beach, California, came to prominence in 1993 with his debut album, Doggystyle.
Gin & Juice, Murder Was The Case, and Doggy Dogg World was among the album's singles.
"I am overjoyed and grateful for the opportunity to acquire the iconic and culturally significant Death Row Records brand, which has enormous untapped future value," the rapper said in a statement.
"It feels fantastic to own the label with which I began my career and was a founding member.
"I'm looking forward to writing Death Row Records' next chapter."
He later captioned a photo on his own Instagram, "Bacc on Death Row."
Snoop spent time in prison as a teenager for a narcotics offense before one of his early mixtapes intrigued NWA co-founder Dre, who asked him to an audition.
Doggystyle catapulted him to international popularity, selling millions of copies worldwide, and he followed it up in 1996 with Tha Doggfather.
However, the rapper became entangled in a dispute with Death Row Records about contract conditions and claimed royalties withholding, and he departed the company in 1998.
Despite this, Snoop continued to achieve success throughout the next decade, with the victory of albums such as Paid Tha Cost To Be Da Boss, Tha Blue Carpet Treatment, and Ego Trippin'.
Bible Of Love, I want to Thank You, and From Tha Streets, 2 Tha Suites are more albums.
